I have been thinking about these maple mint spritzers for weeks. In fact, I have Maple Mint Spritzers written in orange marker on a piece of paper hanging right over my computer screen. And no it does not say Maple Mint Vodka Spritzer. There was no vodka in the plan.

All I thought they would be was like a lightly sweet refreshing mint seltzer water spritzer thingy. Doesn’t that sound good?

But then I went to Maple Fest at Smuggs last week and tasted Literary Dog Maple Vodka for the first time and I knew what had to happen to these spritzers. They still seem very refreshing. And now they are just boozy tooFresh mint muddled with maple syrup in vodka spritzer cocktails

The Literary Dog vodka is made from maple sap that has been concentrated and then fermented and then distilled. Then it is purified. The result is very clean and smooth vodka with a light maple nose. Really lovely I have to say.

And perfect to put in these maple mint spritzers. They are so fresh and light tasting. Quaffable actually.

Since Literary Dog is not available all over, please feel free to make this drink with another good vodka. Though if you can find it, it is worth trying.

As I said, it comes from maple sap from the Elm Brook Farm in East Fairfield Vermont. The husband and wife team collect the sap drop by drop, reduce it through reverse osmosis and then evaporation and then ferment it into maple wine. Then they distill it in beautiful hand made copper pots! It is a very cool and highly skilled process that you can read about on their website. I can see why they call it Forrest to Flask!

Lisa, one of the owners told me they call their vodka a “sipping vodka” because it is really best with little or no accompaniment. I’ll have to try that too. Though these spritzers are pretty amazing.

  1. Divide mint between two tall glasses. Add maple syrup and muddle with a wooden muddling stick or a narrow wooden spoon. Add ice and vodka and then top with seltzer.
