How To  Clean A Leek

Leeks are grown underground so they can be very dirty. To prevent sand and dirt from getting into your recipes, it is important to clean them well. See how to here!

Step 1 Peel down slimy or browned layers. Cut off the roots and the dark green tops

Step 2 Cut leek lengthwise. This helps get into the inner layers of the leek to clean any hidden dirt or sand.

Step 3 Place cut leeks into a bowl of cold tap water. Use your hands to break layers apart. Use a fine mesh strainer to separate clean leeks

Step 4 Spread the leeks out on a plate lined with paper towels or a clean dishcloth. Let them dry before sauteeing or cooking
