Why We Love This Recipe for Easy Fruit and Cream Cheese Lunch Wraps

I know as well as any other parent that getting your kids to eat healthy isn’t always that easy. It’s also incredibly difficult to constantly be thinking of healthy lunch options to send your kids to school with. Let alone actually assembling them.

These fruit wraps are here to save the day. They’re incredibly simple to make, require almost no time in the kitchen, and are delicious. They can really be made in mere minutes and your kids will go crazy for them! The combination of whipped cream cheese and sweet fruit makes these lunch wraps ultra kid-friendly (and adults will love these too!)

Not only are they a super healthy lunch option for kids, but they’re also totally nut-free. Your kids will love them because they’re a lunch that basically tastes like dessert, and what kid wouldn’t love the sound of that.

If you struggle with getting your kids to eat fruits, vegetables and fresh produce in general, these fruit lunches are great because they won’t even really notice. Eating it in a fruit wrap is much more fun for them, and it allows you to feel good about your kids getting a nutritious lunch.

Key Ingredients for These Kid Friendly Wraps

Sliced fruit

Use any 1 cup of sliced fruit that you want. I used strawberries, plums, pears and kiwi, but this really depends on what your kids will eat and what you have at home. The point of this recipe is for it to be as fuss-free and easy for you (the parent) as possible, so use what you have and feel free to get creative!

Whole-wheat flour tortillas

To round off the healthiness of these fruit wraps, I used whole-wheat flour tortillas. To make sure the size of the wraps is good, I’d go with the 8-inch size ones. Not too big, not too small. If your kids are gluten-free, there are some great healthy gluten-free wraps out there. Look for gluten-free wraps with minimal ingredients in them though, since some can definitely have a long list.

Cream cheese

For those of you who haven’t had whipped cream cheese before, it’s the best. It’s nice and fluffy and makes it feel a little more dessert-like. I love the classic Philadelphia cream cheese which you can find in any dairy aisle.

Lay the tortillas out on a clean work surface. Spread two tablespoons of cream cheese over each tortilla, then lay ½ cup fruit on one side of each tortilla in a line. Roll up, sticking it together with the cream cheese. Cut in half and refrigerate or keep cold until ready to eat.

FAQs and Expert Tips

How to store these fruit wraps?

To store these fruit wraps, pop them into a sealed baggie or a small Tupperware container and keep them in the fridge until ready to eat. If packing these in a lunchbox, make sure to keep these wraps chilled

What can I use instead of tortillas?

Although tortillas would be the easiest and fastest choice, you could make a quick batch of whole-wheat crepes and use them as wraps instead. We have also been enjoying lavash wraps lately and they are a great alternative to the tortillas.

What can I use instead of cream cheese?

If you have a dairy allergy you can use dairy free cream cheese instead. If you prefer to not use cream cheese, you could always use Greek yogurt instead. However, since Greek yogurt isn’t as thick as cream cheese, it won’t be as good a binder. We also love these with peanut butter and nut butter, but many schools do not allow it.
